8 At Home Date Night Ideas For Your Garden Room

Written by Cabin Master | Jan 17,2025

Valentine's Day is soon approaching and you might be trying to find a fun date night idea for you and your significant other, or maybe even a Galentines/Palentines activity for you and your besties.

One thing that is on people’s minds, besides planning the ultimate date night, is the cost of going out to your local fancy restaurant or luxury spa evening. If that is your idea of a good time then go for it! But we’ve come up with 8 date night ideas that you can do at home for a fraction of the cost and tailor it to your unique tastes!

If you already have a Cabin Master garden room, it’s the perfect place to host a date night as it can easily become a private getaway space that can be set up beforehand and packed away later- no more tidying away at midnight or dreading it the next day when you’re getting ready for work!

Cocktail / Mocktail Making Evening

Are you or your date an aspiring mixologist? Or perhaps you fancy experimenting and coming up with a new signature drink? Why not gather up your favourite spirits, liquors and mixers and re-create some of your favourite drinks! Try making that Mojito that reminds you of nights out, or a cosy Old Fashioned to wind down after a busy day.

If you’re continuing Dry January into February, or if alcohol isn’t your thing, you can always try making mocktails. Alternatively, if you have a sweet tooth, you could enjoy making luxurious milkshakes full of your favourite sweet treats!

If your space is set up with all the essentials for a bar, you can enjoy a private party experience in your garden bar, without worrying about overpriced drinks!

Games Night

Get cosy with your favourite board games or video games and settle for a fun (and potentially competitive) night in! Try out each other's favourite retro video game from your childhood or try out something completely new to both of you. If there’s a board game you’ve both wanted to try, this could be the perfect date night activity. Add some snacks and drinks and you’re ready to begin!

Movie Night

The classic date night activity, and for a good reason! Embrace the romantic Valentines season with a classic rom-com or stream the latest blockbuster from the comfort of your own home. If you want to take your film watching experience to the next level, why not set up a projector for the ultimate home cinema experience! Good quality mini projectors are relatively inexpensive these days and can be used again and again, all you need is a blank wall space (a white bedsheet hung on the wall works well too!), grab the popcorn and turn down the lights!

Home Spa

Who doesn’t love a spa day? However, spa days can be rather expensive and get booked up around Valentine’s day, so bring the serene spa vibes to your home! Find a quiet space (easy if you have a Cabin Master garden room!) and set up everything you need for your spa experience. Towels, candles, massage oils and facemasks can be easily found around your house or picked up from your local shop, to create your bespoke spa evening. Take your wellness session to the next level by trying out some yoga or meditation together for a complete physical and mental wellbeing session!

Dinner Date

Not every bespoke garden room is set up for cooking, (but if yours is- fantastic!) but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a fancy dinner date! Grab all your favourite cheeses, crackers and fruits to create personalised charcuterie boards or make your dream afternoon tea spread with finger sandwiches, scones and cake!

Alternatively, if you fancy having a five star home-cooked meal, you can set up your garden room with candles, flowers and decor earlier in the day, then prepare your dishes in the home kitchen. When you’re ready to eat, just head out to your decorated garden room for a cosy, romantic meal “out”! Maybe finish the night with a cheeky chocolate fondue?

Sip & Paint

This idea goes hand in hand with our previous cocktail/mocktail evening idea, but you could always sip on your favourite hot beverage whilst doing a cosy painting session together! Get the paints out and try painting each other's portrait, or a recreating of your favourite photo together.

If painting isn’t your thing, any crafty activity will do. Nowadays you can order all sorts of craft kits online like pottery, candle making, crochet, knitting, needlefitting- the list goes on! Better yet, if your garden room is your craft space or art studio, you might already have plenty of supplies just waiting to be used!

Scrapbooking

If you’ve collected lots of little pieces of ephemera from your time together that are sitting in a drawer somewhere, dig out those memories and create a scrapbook together, documenting your life and adventures! You could print some physical photos to stick in your scrapbook, alongside your collection of old receipts from first dates, napkins from your favourite restaurant or whatever else you have collected during your time together.

If you’re both not the crafting types, you could create a physical photo album filled with your treasured memories that you can look back on in years to come!

Birdwatching / Wildlife watching

Take some time to reconnect with nature and observe the wildlife in your back garden! If you haven’t already- set up a bird feeder in your garden or scatter some seeds on the ground and watch your wild visitors arrive for a tasty seed buffet. Keep a record of the birds that visit your garden in notebook, sketchbook or take some stunning wildlife photos!

If your local area has resident foxes, badgers or hedgehogs, these can be excellent to watch at night while you’re cosied up together in your garden room with a cuppa!
