Written by Cabin Master | Jan 14,2025

When it comes to designing and building a garden room, choosing the right material is essential. You might have came across variations of standard redwood and Scandinavian redwood online, but which is the better pick for your garden room? Read on to find out why Scandinavian Redwood Timber is the preferred choice for quality garden rooms and discover the many benefits of opting for Scandinavian redwood timber when designing your perfect garden space!

The Benefits of Scandinavian Redwood Timber Garden Rooms

What's so special about Scandinavian redwood?

Scandinavian redwood isn't just your average timber! One of the standout qualities of Scandinavian Redwood is its durability. This timber is grown in the cooler climates of Scandinavia, where the slow-growing trees develop a tight, dense grain. This natural strength makes Scandinavian Redwood a brilliant material for garden rooms and other outdoor structures, where it needs to stand up to the unpredictable British weather.

Unlike some timbers that warp, twist, or crack over time, Scandinavian Redwood is stable and reliable. Its resilience against wear and tear ensures that your garden room will remain a cherished space for years to come.

What's the difference between Scandinavian redwood and standard redwood?

Scandinavian Redwood is sourced from the cold climates of Northern Europe, where slow-growing trees produce dense, high-quality timber. Here’s how it differs from standard redwood:

Density and Durability

Scandinavian Redwood: The slow growth results in a denser grain, making it more robust and resistant to wear.
Standard Redwood: Faster growth means a looser grain, which can lead to a shorter lifespan.

Appearance

Scandinavian Redwood: Its tight grain and fewer knots give it a cleaner, more refined look, perfect for garden rooms.
Standard Redwood: Tends to have more irregularities and a less uniform appearance.

Cost

Scandinavian Redwood: Offers better value for money, giving you premium quality without the premium price tag. This will make your garden room an excellent long-term investment.

Standard Redwood: Can carry an initially cheaper price tag, but won't provide the longevity and quality of Scandinavian Redwood. A standard redwood may carry higher maintenance costs, making it more expensive over time.

Perfect for any garden room design

We can all agree that looks matter when it comes to garden rooms! Whether you're wanting your new garden room to have a modern style or more traditional, this timber blends effortlessly into all designs and aesthetics. Scandinavian Redwood is prized for its warm tones, natural knots, and beautiful grain patterns, giving it a distinct rustic appeal. So, whether you’re envisioning a modern garden office or a cosy hobbies and crafts space, this timber compliments any style.

Scandinavian redwood use at Cabin Master

The timber we use when designing and manufacturing our garden rooms is FSC certified slow-grown Scandinavian redwood, a very sustainable and hard wearing material. This timber has been allowed to grow for 150 years unlike the more common 30 years of growth found with many imported cabins from competing companies. Not only does our timber provide longevity which far exceeds other products on the market, it also makes for a sustainable choice for those seeking sustainable materials when creating their perfect garden room!

Since we are so sure of the quality and durability of our garden rooms, we offer a 10 year manufacturer's guarantee. Therefore your bespoke Scandinavian redwood garden room designed, manufactured and installed by our teams, comes complete with the peace of mind you might not find with standard redwood garden rooms elsewhere. We will provide a detailed aftercare manual too, and we're only ever a phone call or email away should you have any aftercare requirements or questions.

Proud owners of Scandinavian redwood garden rooms

Yusuf & Rubina's Garden Office

Opting for Scandinavian redwood as their main cladding material, Yusuf and Rubina now have the pleasure of working from a bespoke 5.0m x 3.0m Hybrid Redwood garden office. It's hybrid because we also used Marley board, a zero-maintenace material. Some opt to use Marley board for the back of their garden room which is out of view, knowing they won't have to touch it up with a yearly stain.

Kate's Corner Office Pod

Just look at this stunning Scandinavian redwood office! The ideal timber choice for our customer Kate. She wanted her garden office pod to blend naturally with her garden, to create a calm space where she can focus when working from home. Kate actually said: 'Immediately I could see the difference in quality and construction' when comparing our Scandinavian redwood buildings to those on the market which use standard redwood timber. She also said: 'It was fairly easy for me to decide which cladding would best suit our garden office pod. The slow grown Scandinavian Redwood cladding was top pick for price and style; a beautiful and timeless appearance that wouldn’t compromise on the quality even though it was cost-effective. We felt the Redwood was more 'earthy' to fit in with our slightly wild garden!'

Moisture Resistance

Scandinavian Redwood’s density helps it resist moisture absorption, reducing the risk of swelling, warping, or rotting. This is especially important for garden rooms, which are often exposed to damp or rainy environments.

Versatile Applications

Whether you’re planning a home gym, an art studio, a relaxation pod, or even a garden guest house, Scandinavian Redwood is versatile enough to accommodate any design. Its timeless aesthetic ensures it complements any intended use or style.

Increased Property Value

Adding a garden room made from Scandinavian Redwood can boost your property’s value. Its high-quality, durable finish ensures your investment adds long-term appeal to your home.
