Top 10 Uses Of An Outdoor Cabin

Luxury Garden Room with veranda & bifolds

If you're in the process of buying a cabin, you’re probably wondering what the best use for it is?

As one of the largest sellers of outdoor cabins in the UK, you're absolutely in the right spot! We have sold thousands of our Arctic Cabins to just as many satisfied customers, and here's what we think are the top 10 uses for a cabin (based on feedback from our customers):

1. Man Cave/She Shed

Now, although this is at the top of the list, these types of cabins are not just for men - we have seen an increasing number of “She Sheds” being built and women too, are creating their very own version of the Man Cave. Either way, with an outdoor cabin, you'd be able to customise the interior and exterior with your own unique style and design.

You can literally decorate it as much as you'd like and spice it up with a pool table, darts board, or keep it as a BBQ party/relaxation spot.

2. Yoga Studio

If you've ever taken a yoga class, you'll know that you need an area that is peaceful, free from distractions, and comfortable. An outdoor cabin could be the perfect solution - it's much cheaper and more practical than renting a separate studio space.

The great thing is, your cabin can be multi-use - during the day, it can be your yoga studio, and, at night, you could switch it to a movie room!

3. Movie Room

Speaking of movie rooms, with a cabin, you can create the perfect movie theatre in your backyard.

Get some comfortable sofas and chairs, set up a big widescreen TV and, if you're feeling extra fancy, install surround sound speakers. There really is no limit to your imagination when it comes to customising your cabin!

This is great for single viewing or the whole family - what better way is there to have a get-together than with a movie night? Especially as most of us pass like ships in the night and just don't seem to spend that much quality time together anymore.

4. Study Room/Home Office

Now, granted, these cabins aren't as large and spacious as our Cabin Master cabins, however, they still make for an excellent home office.

You can set up a desk, computer, and all the other items you need to get your work done - and with zero distractions, you'll be able to stay focused on getting all your tasks completed in no time.

Of course, if a traditional desk isn’t your jam, how about a beanbag chair and a laptop for a more relaxed style of working?

5. Playroom

If you're looking for a space for your kids to play, an outdoor cabin could be the perfect choice.

Set up designated spaces for different activities; a reading corner, a play corner, a make-shift stage for impromptu productions (you get the idea) - anything that can keep them occupied while giving them their own space away from the main house.

A previous favourite for a playroom was a conservatory, but that is still connected to your home - with an outdoor cabin, your kids can play in their own private space -where you can still (discreetly) keep an eye on them.

6. Creative Space

Whether you're an artist, musician, or writer - you can use your cabin as the perfect creative nook where you can do all of the things that require uninterrupted concentration and focus.

Install a comfy sofa so you can catch some rest during breaks, and set up a desk to get work done. The beauty of a cabin is that you can design it to be the perfect creative hub for all kinds of activities.

BBQ Cabin

7. BBQ Cabin

To be honest, a BBQ cabin is the most popular use of our Arctic cabins.

The main reason for this is that it provides you with a space away from the house that's still part of your backyard. Most are preinstalled with a BBQ unit as well, so you don't have to set up your own - just light it up and get cooking!

With surround seating and cosy cushions - it's like having a restaurant in your own backyard!

Garden gym room

8. Gym

This is especially useful if you are buying a cabin with a wide area in the middle, as that's where you can place all your gym equipment.

A treadmill, exercise bike, weights bench - whatever takes your fancy. You can even install a TV so you don't get bored while working out.

(A 17m2 or 25m2 would probably be recommended as the right size cabin for a home gym).

9. Home Spa/Sauna

Similar to a gym, but rather than installing your treadmill, stationary bike and squat rack, you could use the space to set up a home spa by creating a relaxing area inside with perhaps a jacuzzi, steam room or make it somewhere to hang out when you exit the hot tub.

Add in storage for towels, somewhere to make a drink and some comfy seating + foot stools to ensure a soft landing…

10. Teenage Hideout

We all remember our teenage years and our need for privacy; even though we had our own room, it just wasn't the same.

With an outdoor cabin, teenagers can have their own private space away from the main house. It's also a great way for them to socialise with friends, just like we did in our day!

It's the perfect place for them to hang out with their friends or alone  - doing whatever it is they are into.

A lot of our customers have turned these cabins into gaming rooms for their kids, which is also a great idea. And it keeps them out of mischief (at least,  most of the time)!

Garden Office with Shed

We promised you two of the "not so good" uses - so, here we go:

1. Main Living Space

Outdoor cabins are not designed as living spaces. They are designed as recreational spaces. If you wanted to use them as a sleep space, there are a few things you’d need to do first; one of the main things being getting in touch with your local authority.

A living space would usually involve applying for planning permission and ensuring that the cabin meets all relevant safety standards.

2. Garden Shed

There are so many uses for your outdoor cabin, however, we don't recommend using it as a garden shed. It would be such a waste of this amazing space and, in truth, you're far better off building a separate shed in the garden.

These cabins are designed for outdoor recreation and should be used as something extraordinary, not just storage.

Anyway, we hope this article has given you some ideas on how to make the most of your outdoor cabin - feel free to get creative and use it for whatever purpose fits your lifestyle!
