Langar CofE Primary School Outdoor Music Classroom

Cabins for Schools revisited to meet the children and video the music classroom in action!

Find out why Langar Primary School needed more space for their pupils.

A Primary School With A Passion For Music But No Designated Space For Music Lessons

Langar Primary School is a Voluntary Controlled Church of England school occupying an idyllic rural setting in the village of Langar, on the Nottinghamshire / Leicestershire border. Emily the Head Teacher approached us to help with their long-awaited School music room project. The children were taking music lessons in communal spaces such as the library and hall due to a lack of designated free space.

Inspired By A Garden Room Outdoor Classroom For Music Tuition Lessons

The staff and pupils wanted to create a space separate from the main building that would be used for music lessons for the children. Having a space designated to music meant that the children would be able to participate in the music lessons without the distractions that they were experiencing in the communal areas - such as the school hall.

The Cabin For Schools Process From Design To Installation

Langar School music room 3D design

Following an initial meeting with Emily the headteacher at our Nottingham Show site, we worked on a 3D design together to create a quote to work with the school budget for the project.

We considered the window and door placement to make the outdoor classroom suitable for music lessons but also future-proofed the building to be used in other ways - such as for staff and parent meeting rooms, small group work, and outdoor learning. Emily wanted a modern, clean look to the school's garden classroom and opted for Cedarwood external cladding and anthracite grey double-glazed windows and doors.

Emily and the Langar School team agreed to the idea in principle, and Anne-Marie visited Langar Primary School to double-check the positioning of the outdoor music classroom and finalise the details.

The order was placed and the manufacturing process began! Within 8 weeks from start to finish the new outdoor music classroom was installed and ready to use with minimal disruption to the school staff and pupils.

What Difference Did The Outdoor Music Classroom Make To The Staff

"The Music Room has had an incredible impact here at Langar Primary School where music is really at the centre of all that we do. We have about 6 music teachers that come onto site from outside but particularly for Sarah who teaches recorders on a daily basis!" - Emily, Head Teacher

"It's been marvelous actually because it's very frustrating when you are usually teaching in school and there are people walking past, making comments… the children aren’t concentrating properly but now that we’ve got this lovely music room, I can whisk them all in there and we’ve got 100% concentration! Music is very important in school - so it's a marvelous - all-round thumbs up from us!!" - Sarah, Music Teacher

What Difference Did The Outdoor Music Classroom Make To The Children

"Practicing in the Music room is much better because in the library you hear all of the noise from outside and here it’s much quieter. It’s just music in here! It's not like anything else. It's just music, music, music!" - Olivia, Pupil

"It's just got a nice sound when you play so that I can hear if the notes have gone squeaky. I can play and not feel shy that other people are listening to me. So I can just play with my reacher listening." - Martha, Pupil
