So, let's get started:

1. Keep It Light, Airy And Minimal

If you're like most people, your garden room is likely jam-packed with, well… stuff! But, if you're going to be using it as a guest bedroom, you'll need to declutter and make some space.

Start by getting rid of any unnecessary furniture and decorations, and then have a good clear out.

There's nothing worse than an overly-cluttered and cramped guest bedroom, so make sure you create a light and airy space for your guests to enjoy.

Which brings us nicely to the next tip…

2. Bring The Outdoors In

Your garden room is the perfect place to bring the outdoors in, and there's no better way to do that than with some beautiful greenery.

Not only will plants add a touch of nature to your space, but they can also help to purify the air and create a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

So, add some potted plants or even some hanging plants to really bring your garden room to life.

3. Add A Comfy Bed

This should have been at the top of the list, but here at Cabin Master we've got some OCD tendencies, so opted to put decluttering at the top of the list :)

Your guests are going to need a comfortable place to sleep, so make sure you add a good quality bed and some cosy bedding.

Just make sure the bed is in keeping with the size of your garden room - you don't want it to take up the entire space!

4. Create A Cosy Reading Nook

One of the best things about having a garden room is that you can enjoy the outdoors without actually being outside.

Why not create a cosy reading nook for your guests to enjoy?

All you need is a comfortable armchair, a good quality lamp and some shelves for storing books. Then, add some cosy blankets and cushions to really make it feel like a home away from home.

5. Add Some Storage

You can't have a guest bedroom without a bit of decent storage, so make sure you add some shelves or cupboards for your guests to use.

This will give them somewhere to store their clothes and belongings and will help to keep the space feeling clutter-free.
Similar to 'The ShOffice’, your garden room can perform dual functions as a bedroom and a home office.

So it will be a bedroom at night, kick them out and it'll be an office by day!

6. Make It Dark And Cosy

Most modern garden rooms have windows, but what they don't have is a way to keep the light out.

So, if you want to create a dark and cosy space for your guests, you'll need to invest in some blackout blinds or curtains.

This will help to keep the light out and will make it easier for your guests to sleep.

Have you ever heard of "perfect fit" window blinds?

These are an excellent option as they sit flush with the window frame and don't require any drilling or screwing. They're super easy to fit and will do a great job of keeping the light out.

7. Think About Lighting

The right lighting can really transform a space, so it's important to get it right in your garden room.

Unless you have installed a TV, your guest will likely read or relax in this room in the evening. So, you'll need to add some ambient lighting to create a cosy and inviting atmosphere.

You might want to opt for some table lamps or floor lamps. But if you want to keep it light and airy, then spotlights or downlights will do the trick.

8. Decide If Your Garden Room Will Have A Toilet

Now, before we dive deep into this point, we've got to say that it's a lot easier to have this included in a new build, rather than after the fact.

But if you're planning on turning your garden room into a guest bedroom, then you'll need to decide if you want to include a toilet. This will, again, come down to how much space you have available.

If you've got the space and you think your guests would appreciate their own private toilet, then go for it!

9. Decide If your Garden Room Will Have A Shower

Similar to the last point, if you're planning on turning your garden room into a guest bedroom, then you'll need to decide if you want to include a shower.

As mentioned above, this will be much easier if you're ordering a bespoke build, but it is possible to install a shower into an existing garden room. It won't be easy, but it can be done!

If you're including a shower, then you'll also need to think about drainage. This is something that's often overlooked, but it's important to get right.

Depending on the type of foundations your garden room has, you might need to install a sump pump to ensure the water drains away properly.

10. Don't Forget About Heating

Finally, don't forget about the heating! If you want your guests to be comfortable, then you'll need to make sure your garden room is adequately heated.

When you originally had your garden room installed you may have left out the heating in an attempt to save money. But, if you're planning on using it as a guest bedroom, that is something you’ll need to rethink.

There are a few different options when it comes to heating your garden room:

The most popular option is to install an electric heater, as they're relatively cheap to run and easy to install.

Another option is to connect your garden room to your main house's heating system. This is a bit more complex, but it will mean that your guests can enjoy the same level of comfort as they would in the rest of your home.

Finally, you could opt for a wood-burning stove. This will create a cosy and inviting atmosphere, however, it is going to be more expensive to run.
