Why Build a Custom Garden Room Over a Prefabricated Room?

Cabin Master is a specialist in bespoke garden rooms, but we recognise that custom options aren’t the only choice on the market…. more generalised building companies offer prefabricated garden rooms.

If you’re looking for a garden room, it’s your prerogative to choose whichever option you prefer. However, we firmly believe the majority of people would be better served building a custom garden room over a prefabricated one.

We’ve broken down the differences and advantages below so you can make an informed choice between custom and prefabricated when looking to build a garden room.

What’s the difference between a custom garden room vs prefabricated?

A prefabricated room is where all the elements of the room are constructed off site and en masse, to the same specifications. They can then be put together onsite quickly and produce rooms that are the same every time.

Garden Room Price List

In comparison, a custom garden room is designed unique to the customers’ (your!) specifications. Each element of the room is then constructed to those unique specifications, some offsite and some onsite. The final result is a completely unique room that’s built around your needs.

Price difference

Perhaps one of the most well known differences between prefabricated and custom garden rooms is the price. Any prefabricated product will be cheaper than a custom product as factories can use product lines to save time and, therefore, money.

However, a cheaper price comes with its own cost. Prefabricated rooms are a one-size-fits-all approach and, in practice, one size doesn’t fit all! Prefabricated options simply don’t come ready to suit every requirement, use and vision for a garden room. In many cases, prefabricated garden rooms end up being a compromise between what you want and the cheaper price. At Cabin Master, we don’t like compromising on your ideas.

Custom garden rooms are more expensive, but the cost pays for a room fully designed by you. You can customise measurements, window placements, doors and internal features so the room is fully functional for whatever purpose you want. Not only that, it will look exactly how you want it.

Our expert designers will discuss your requirements and the purpose for your room. They can recommend layouts and features that will help make your ideas not just possible, but beautiful.

In all, while there is a price difference between prefabricated and custom garden rooms, it’s one that ensures you get value for money and a final product that will last for decades.

Benefits of building a custom garden room

There are clear differences between building a garden room bespoke vs prefabricated, but let’s break down the benefits.

Luxury built in

At Cabin Master, we only build luxury garden rooms. If you opt for a custom design over prefabricated, then part of the appeal is the exquisite beauty and luxury of the final product.

Prefabricated rooms, even the more expensive options, often look like fancy garden sheds. Custom rooms, on the other hand, look more like a house extension or annex.

With a custom room, luxury is built in right from the start so your final product looks absolutely stunning.

Design flexibility

The biggest benefit when choosing to build a custom garden room, rather than prefabricated, is the flexibility of the design. There are very few limits, beyond the space you have available, to the ways in which your garden room can be customised to suit your needs.

Longevity

Custom garden rooms are built to last. Not only in terms of high quality materials, but also the functionality of the room. Because they’re designed around your and your family’s specific requirements, they’re much more likely to be used for decades rather than a couple of years before no longer meeting your needs.

Examples of custom garden rooms

Custom garden rooms come in all shapes and sizes, many of which just aren’t possible with a prefabricated design. We have a host of examples of what garden rooms can look like, but your imagination is really the only limit!

BBQ Cabins

A year round BBQ in the UK? Surely not! We can create custom BBQ cabins that mean you can enjoy fantastic BBQs no matter the weather and gather friends and family in an insulated, cosy space. They look fantastic too - typically in a hexagonal shape, they have comfy seating and optional bar space. BBQ cabins just aren’t possible with prefabricated rooms as they require special safety measures and custom designs to make them comfortable.

Garden Bars

Don’t have space inside your house for a purpose-built bar? Your garden might just be the perfect spot. We’ve built cabins specifically designed as garden bars

The size and design is totally up to you, but could feature folding doors that can open into the garden during the summer, or an in-built heating system to keep it cosy in the winter. You could have space for a dining table and chairs, or opt for a sofa area for peak relaxation.

Sauna Cabins

You don’t have to drive out to the spa to enjoy a sauna, just take a private (and short!) stroll through your garden before stepping into the heated, steamy cabin room.

Our custom built sauna cabins are nothing like the prefabricated, small sauna sheds available on the market. They’re luxury, high quality rooms that will feel just like being at the spa - whenever you want.

We truly believe that building a custom garden room is the better choice than a prefabricated option. It’s worth the additional investment for the longevity and truly unique nature of the final room.
